You probably know Les Deux Magots for its traditional French cuisine, old-fashioned hot chocolate and pastries... But the Saint-Germain-des-Prés brasserie doesn't stop there: it feeds the body as well as the mind! Its café has long been a favorite haunt of Parisian artists. To mark its 140th anniversary, Les Deux Magots invites us to relive the great hours of this creative era, in a free photo exhibition presented from April 30 to September 22, 2024.
The 140 Years of Creative Minds in Saint-Germain-des-Prés exhibition brings together a wealth of images, including some by such masters of photography as Robert Doisneau. From 1813 to the present day, the history of this landmark of the 6th arrondissement is told through archival photographs and images of today.
We (re)discover the novelty store, transformed into a literary café. The photos show the great artists who sat at these tables: Paul Verlaine and Guillaume Apollinaire, Boris Vian, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Elsa Triolet, as well as J. J. Abrams, Paul McCartney, Brassens, Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano... French and international literature, music, painting, fashion and cinema all sat down at these tables.
The exhibition also focuses on the Parisian spirit, the atmosphere of this Latin Quarter café that has been perpetuated over the years. We admire the allure of the waiters, the lively debates among customers captured on film...
On your next stroll through the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district, take a step back in time with the free Deux Magots exhibition!
