Looking for a green space to relax and discover the first trees in bloom? We'll take you to the Jardin Nelson Mandela, located in the center of Paris in the Halles district.
Formerly known as the Jardin des Halles, this space was redesigned as part of the district's vast renovation project. Renamed in 2013 as a tribute to Nelson Mandela, it is now a popular place for strolling. With its shady paths, vast lawns and children's play areas, there's something for everyone.
The garden is distinguished by its varied and carefully selected vegetation. Lime trees, white magnolias, maples and hornbeams provide generous ground cover.
Japanese cherry trees brighten up the park with their spring blossoms, while hackberry and ginkgo biloba trees offer foliage that changes with the seasons. Clumps of roses, lilacs and ornamental grasses add a colorful, fragrant touch to the garden's pathways. In summer, the space offers pleasant shady corners, while autumn reveals a palette of shimmering hues.
Water features and fountains provide welcome coolness (when they're working) for strollers, while children enjoy modern play areas designed for different ages. Next door, the Canopée brings together a media library, a conservatory and a cultural center dedicated to hip-hop, further enriching the experience of the site.
Easily accessible, the Jardin Nelson Mandela is located above the Forum des Halles and opposite the Bourse de Commerce (which hides an excellent tearoom to be discovered without tickets) as well as the Eglise Saint-Eustache, close to the Châtelet - Les Halles station, one of the largest in Europe. The perfect spot for a break in the heart of Paris, after a shopping spree or a cultural visit. Whether for reading, picnicking or simply enjoying a quiet moment, this garden is an ideal stopover in the heart of the capital.
