Looking for a great idea for a walk in the Ile-de-France region? We have for you, a favorite walk to live alone or to discover with your friends. Once you have arrived at the Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse train station or at the parking lot on Charles Michels street, you will have to go towards the village of Chevreuse to reach the beginning of the " Promenade des petits ponts". To do this, take the Chemin de Coubertin, which runs along green fields. You will discover a bicycle and pedestrian path marked GR Div which runs along the road towards Fondation de Coubertin / Piscine. This path is bordered by a bucolic field, peaceful cows and, in the distance, the majestic château de la Madeleine.
You can then continue your way to the Coubertin Farm where you can take a break to visit it. On your way back, you may want to stock up on farm products. From there, it is time to take the path on the right through the fields for about 200 meters before turning right again onto the GR11. In the distance, you can already see the Madeleine castle : the walk can begin !
Along the path, let yourself be surprised by the charm of the many small bridges that line the road, 22 in total. Stone, metal, flowered, old, renovated, surrounded by water lilies, straight, concave, etc., their diversity is astonishing.
But these bridges are not the only point of interest of the stroll. If you keep your eyes open, you will see here and there traces of the old tannery activity, such as wash houses, sheds on the banks, as well as a hide drying shed, which has now been converted into a community hall and can be visited freely.
Built in the 19th century, the Mandar washhouse was once a bustling place, with the capacity to accommodate up to 12 washerwomen washing clothes simultaneously. Nowadays, after a careful restoration, this historical place offers a sheltered stop to hikers for a moment of pause and serenity.
When you arrive at the Mandar wash house, you will discover Chevreuse, a quiet town where it is nice to walk. You can refresh yourself at the terrace of the Alchemist and taste its delicious home-made syrups.
Once in the center of the village, if you feel like it, you can climb up to the Madeleine castle, which dominates the Chevreuse valley. The panoramic view is a good reward for the effort!
Moreover, since you are in the area, why not take the opportunity to visit the Maison-musée Raymond Devos, an atypical and funny cultural place that will surprise you!
