Who hasn't heard ofOktoberfest? The famous Oktoberfest takes place every autumn in Munich, Germany, and for 16 to 18 days brings together several million people under the many tents set up on the famous Theresienwiese square.
Proof of its success, the event has been exported to several other countries, including Brazil, the USA and China. Surprisingly, the French version ofOktoberfest had never existed before. Now, for the second year running, the event is being held in our beloved capital.
Nestled in the Paris Event Center in the 19th arrondissement, the French version ofOktoberfest is much smaller than the original.
A single 1,500-person tent is set up to accommodate the 10,000 to 15,000 visitors expected until October 16, 2016. Nevertheless, this second French edition has plenty to offer, with its many unmissable mugs of 1-liter Paulaner beers accompanied by Bavarian culinary specialties.
And there's something for every appetite and palate: from crispy knuckle of pork to Tyrolean-style grilled ribs, from Bavarian and Nuremberg sausages to the famous spätzle and, for those with a sweet tooth, warm apple strudel.
To bring a touch of Bavaria to the heart of Paris,OktoberFest has chosen to bring in a group voted best in German folk music and festivities: the Steinbergers! Accordions, trumpets and guitars were the order of the day, as visitors danced along to some very folkloric music!
As soon as they arrived, the atmosphere really kicked up a notch. The crowd began to sing, clap, raise their glasses and even chase each other down the aisles.
Meanwhile, the waiters and waitresses, dressed in traditional garb, are hard at work, running up and down the aisles, sometimes with as many as 8 1-litre mugs of beer between their arms!
To further raise the temperature, theParisian Oktoberfest brought a Bavarian cancan to the stage, and it didn't take long for it to draw all eyes to itself. It has to be said that the dancers know what they're doing, stringing together a series of styles and putting on a very fine show before the amused eyes of the audience.
Last but not least,Oktoberfest also features the traditional outstretched arm mug. Who'll last the longest?
Note that this second edition also unveils a few new features, such as a special brunch on October 9 and the Miss Oktoberfest on October 12.
All these events can be enjoyed at the Paris Event Center until October 16, 2016, for the second French edition of Oktoberfest.
