L'IBRIK is a weird Coffee Shop in the 9th arrondissement, run by two dynamic young women with a rich cultural background. Cathy, whose real name is Ecaterina, came to France from Romania at the age of 6. Her memories of her native Romania include long winter evenings with her grandmother and the smell of coffee cooking in theHovoli. It's this experience that she invites you to discover in her café.
A coffee at IBRIK is all about taking your time! Take the time to relax and recharge your batteries. The preparation of a traditional Ibrik alone takes around ten minutes. Far from a quick and easy espresso, IBRIK coffee is meticulously weighed, then ground by the minute to preserve its full aroma. Placed in the ibrik, a small hourglass-shaped copper pot, the coffee is covered with water at 80°C. To complete the cooking process, the ibrik is then placed for a few minutes in a sand bath in the Hovoli, the same one Cathy's grandmother used as a child.
Rest assured, if you're not feeling adventurous, L'Ibrik also offers all kinds of more classic coffees: espresso, latte, cappucino and even iced coffees... All made with premium coffees from the Coutume roaster.
But that's not all! L'Ibrik also offers food! Open from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, and from 10.30am to 4.30pm on Saturday, this coffee shop is the ideal place to enjoy a good breakfast before tackling a (hard) day's work, as well as a great canteen for lunch or a delicious late afternoon snack.
Ruba, the Palestinian-born chef who grew up in Dubai and worked in Michelin-starred restaurants, prepares delicious mezze and pitas for lunch every day, as well as Greek bowls and Bircher muesli for breakfast. Throughout the day, you can also sample unique cakes, such as the famous pistachio tart, which you won't find anywhere else.
In terms of decor, this charming, rosy-colored café welcomes you in a soft, warm atmosphere. There are no tables for two here, only tables of 4. Cathy and Ruba have made no bones about it: L'Ibrik is a mix of their cultures, and they want to mix genres and people. With seating for 20 downstairs and a further 15 upstairs, the café can accommodate 35 diners.
But l'Ibrik is best described by Cathy, so have a listen!
In short, we love Ibrik.
