Just because you're vegetarian, vegan or lactose intolerant doesn't mean you have to give up cheese, or at least its substitutes! If you've got a craving for faux-mage, head for the 11th arrondissement and the 100% plant-based creamery and cheese shop Jay&Joy.
Opened in 2016 by Mary and Eric, the fromagerie unveils its organic and vegan cheeses in the window, with recipes devised by the duo. All faux-mages are made with almond and cashew milk and matured in a workshop in La Croix-Saint-Ouen in the Oise region.
After months of refurbishment, Jay&Joy now boasts an enlarged creamery, a well-stocked grocery section and, even more original for a plant-based cheese shop, a cut section just like in a traditional cheese shop! Jay&Joy must-haves include Jean-Jacques (the plant-based alternative to Maroilles), Jeanne (the plant-based alternative to blue/roquefort), Jil (the plant-based alternative to goat's cheese), Joséphine (the plant-based alternative to camembert/brie), Joy Râpé (the plant-based alternative to grated cheese) and Jeta Fermenté (the plant-based alternative to feta).
Jay&Joy now also offers a selection of sweet and savoury vegan takeaway products, including quiches, salads, cakes and even pastries!
