From June 2 to 4, 2023, Saint-Germain-en-Laye organizes the fourth edition of the Fêtes Luziennes, and for the occasion, the Yvelines town is once again decked out in the traditional colors of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, the famous town on the Basque Coast! "With this festive event, we're celebrating Louis XIV and the history of our town, which is intimately linked to him. We're inviting local residents to dress up in red and black, the colors of Saint-Jean-de-Luz's traditional patron saint's day," declares Arnaud Pericard, the town's mayor.
A traditional family and festive event in the Basque country, the fêtes luziennes take over the heart of Saint-Germain-en-Laye for 3 days of festivities and celebrations. Saint-Germain residents, strollers and the curious will be able to discover a Basque village of gastronomic and craft stands.
This year's Fêtes Luziennes 2023 de Saint-Germain-en-Laye will feature sporting demonstrations of Basque pelota, a Basque party, a traditional choir, entertainment and numerous gourmet events. For the occasion, the shops and café-brasseries are even transformed into bodegas!
The festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m. on June 2, with a performance by the departmental orchestra of the Yvelines fire department. The evening continues on Place du Marché-Neuf with a performance by the "Oihal Berri" choir, a Basque party by DJ Vonder, bandas and the traditional Toro de fuego with its confetti battle.
The following day, Saturday, will feature sports, bandas and choir, as well as a cooking competition from 12 noon to 2 p.m., and a musical party in the Place du Marché Neuf, as well as the Sunday market.
