Already a fixture in the Canal Saint-Martin, Bastille and Etienne Marcel districts,Street BKK chose Saint-Germain-des-Prés as its new home a few months ago. Because even there, gourmets like to go with their fingers for fine cuts of meat.
But in this new HQ for lovers of flavors from elsewhere, there's a big new feature, visible from the street: a large, handsome Josper oven that takes pride of place in the middle of the open kitchen .
Because at this Street BKK Grill & Beer, meats get special treatment: a new braise cooking technique masterfully operated by chef Jeff Claudio, an expert in cooking techniques.
So, while we were there, we thought we'd give the menu a run for its money and discover the beautiful things that go into the oven and come out grilled and smoked to perfection.
When it comes to grilled meats, you'll find Bangkok street food classics: Tigre qui Pleure beef (17€), chicken marinated in coconut milk and spices (13€), pork sausage with lemongrass-combawa-lemon leaf (13€), whole sea bream (16€)... And, of course, we're talking about meats carefully selected and grilled with love!
We choose not to choose and opt for one meat and one fish, the great novelty of this Street BKK. On one side, then, the smoked Street BBQ sauce ribs (15€), a must-have on the menu, with its melt-in-your-mouth ribs (they come right off the bone!) and its 30-spice smoked marinade, seasoned with lime!
On the other hand, the tonic salmon (16€), with a spicy sauce based on soy paste, coriander, lime and rice vinegar. The result is an oscillation between the sweetness and freshness of the salmon, and the deliciousness of the ribs, which you can devour with your fingers before licking them clean!
Both dishes are accompanied by white rice, but to get a fuller taste of the menu, we opt to share a crispy pork salad (8€). Be warned, though, that the portions of the dishes and salads are more than generous, so there's plenty for big appetites!
This highly original salad features homemade popcorn-style curried rice balls, minced pork sausage, papaya and spicy raw vegetables. An explosion of flavors!
To extinguish the fire in our mouths, we end this meal of a thousand flavors with two scoops of ice cream from Glazed: one rather classic but tasty with coconut, the other much more original and surprising, with pandan leaf .
Once again, Street BKK offers us, with this new spot, a veritable journey to Thailand, both in terms of flavors and decoration (be sure to head upstairs to discover the enormous neon sign in the shape of Nâga, a sacred animal half-snake half-dragon!) We'll be back!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
