After opening Chez Prout in 2018 in Paris 18th arrondissement, the winning trio including Margaux, Antoine and Alexandre opens Prout Prout in the 17th arrondissement. Two Prouts for one, we had to go and see… And it was really delicious! Let’s meet from Tuesday to Friday from noon to 2 p.m. for lunch, or from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for dinner, as well as on Saturday night at Prout Prout in Paris 17th arrondissement a stone’s throw from Courcelles metro station.
As soon as we get in, we love the 70’s vibe with the pink tiled floor, the wooden chairs, the lovely steel chandeliers and the open-plan kitchen. The décor has been designed by Otso Studio. We love the choice of blue-grey ceramic plates and dishes selection. It is sober, pretty and highlights the dishes well.
As for the menu, it changes with the season and the inspirations, but every dish is based on fresh produces, simple and deliciously indulging food. The menu works on the small plates to share or to jealously keep for yourself principle! Two or three plates per person depending on how hungry you are with prices from €6 to €13, it is more than reasonable as for your budget.
We tried the deviled eggs (€6) with miso and pickles twisting the taste of the egg. We really enjoyed the beetroot, feta, mint hummus (€8) served with fresh bread.
The bluefin tuna tataki was a delight, barely seared, perfectly half-cooked, half-raw.
As for the seabass carpaccio with leche de tigre, it unveils a hundred flavors in a very delicate fashion.
And let us not forget about the pear curry cauliflower, to die for! And something we would try at home this winter, to twist our next cauliflower-based meals.
To be honest, after all these dishes, we were no longer hungry. 5 plates for two patrons, it is more than enough. But we went for the meringue lemon and it was so good we enjoyed every single bite to the very last crumb. A mix of textures between moist and crunch, sourly as can be, one of the best lemon desserts we have ever had, and trust me on this!
After enjoying our meal, we chatted with Margaux, one of the founders of Prout Prout with Antoine and Alexandre. Of course, we had to ask her about the name (Prout meaning “fart” in French and Prout Prout means hoity-toity)! And she is the one who suggested it, like a joke because she saw thousands of restaurants opening with old-fashioned names that you cannot help but forget them. But that very name was destined to stick around. Well played! And as Margaux tells us, such a name means you will attract patrons with a sense of humor.
So, for a meal that is everything but hoity-toity, head to Prout Prout in Paris 17th arrondissement, we assure you this address is going to be one of your favorites and you will come back often!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
