The Fête de la Science is a national event in France celebrating scientific discovery and popularization. Since its inception in 1991, it has aimed to make science accessible to all. For ten days each year, researchers, laboratories, museums and universities open their doors to the general public with conferences, workshops, exhibitions and fun experiments.
In Paris, the Fête de la Science takes on a special dimension with hundreds offree events at emblematic venues and universities. Interactive trails, lectures by renowned researchers and hands-on workshops invite young and old to explore the latest scientific discoveries in fields ranging from astronomy to neuroscience.
TheGeorges Eastman Institute, located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris, is a preventive dental care center for children. Created in 1937 thanks to a donation from American industrialist George Eastman, founder of Kodak, and designed in Art Deco style by architect Emmanuel Pontremoli, the building, now a listed historic monument, has long been a major venue for pediatric dental care in the capital. Today, it houses cultural activities and exhibitions, and is taking part in this 2024 edition of the Fête de la Science.

All day long, you'll be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at environmental health laboratories, and have fun in the process.
Stand - Chemical pollutants
The hunt for pollutants is on! Like any enclosed environment, our homes are conducive to the presence of chemical pollutants in the air we breathe. But how can we find and get rid of them? The City of Paris' Environmental Health Laboratory Service invites you and your family to play and become ambassadors for good indoor air quality.
Stand - Food hygiene
What are the best ways to ensure good food hygiene on a daily basis? Prepare dishes for hot or cold consumption. Store even the most fragile foodstuffs properly. Tidy up your fridge. These are just some of the good practices you can adopt to keep unwanted germs to a minimum. Get to know the conditions in which they develop, and learn the basic rules of good food hygiene through play.
Stand - Indoor environment
Did you know that, on average, we spend more than 80% of our time indoors? Our homes, offices, classrooms and transport systems are all places where we breathe air whose quality can have an impact on our health. Come and meet specialists in indoor air quality and learn how to ensure a healthy environment for you and your loved ones.
Stand - One health
Did you know that the health of living beings and ecosystems is intimately linked? The "One Health" concept encourages a global approach to promoting the health of humans, animals and ecosystems, taking into account the complex links between them. In Paris, species that pose health risks, such as mosquitoes and bedbugs, are part of our ecosystem. Do you really know them? Come and learn how to identify them, and adopt the right daily gestures to limit their proliferation.
Stand - Asbestos and particles
Banned since 1997, asbestos was used until then in numerous materials and products for fire protection, insulation, mechanical properties and rot-proofing. Today, it has been replaced by other fibrous materials such as wool insulation, but is still present in many buildings. What are its health effects? What precautions should be taken? Come and meet scientists from the Environmental Health Laboratories Department, and play educational games to learn more about asbestos and other fibers in our environment.
Did you know? We breathe over 15,000 liters of air a day, and the quality of this air varies from season to season and from region to region.
At the City of Paris' specialized environmental health laboratories located in the George Eastman Institute, come and learn how to flush out the sources of pollutants around you, identify allergenic trees or discover the particles in the air or bacteria in our environment with the help of an electron microscope.
Educational workshops, family games, mini-conferences and laboratory visits will be offered throughout this exceptional day open to the public.
The event is organized by the Paris Public Health Department.
To mark the Fête de la science 2024, the Paris Public Health Department is offering a tour of the environmental health laboratories located in the former George Eastman Dental Institute, opposite the Parc de Choisy.
Accompanied by laboratory technicians and engineers, you'll discover the activities and scientific instruments dedicated to monitoring the various determinants of our health in Paris.
30-minute tours upon registration at reception.
