For the Journées du Patrimoine, we're heading for the Musée français de la photographie, which welcomes us for tours and workshops on September 16 and 17, 2023. Today, photography is everywhere and within everyone's reach, but this hasn't always been the case, and image capture techniques have undergone many changes. Discover the history and workings of photography at the Musée français de la photographie, in Essonne, France, which is open free of charge for the occasion.
The museum opened its doors in 1960, under the impetus of two photography enthusiasts, Jean and André Fage, who turned it into a community museum. For over 30 years, they brought together a variety of images and objects, bearing witness to the history of photography and its evolution over the years. Today, the museum houses a total of 25,000 objects and one million photographs, making it one of the world's most important collections.
Since 2003, the museum has also been recognized as a "Musée de France" by the Conseil départemental de l'Essonne. And as for the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), please note that while all the tours and activities on offer this weekend are free of charge, most are only accessible by reservation! Register now by telephone on 01 69 35 16 50 or by e-mail at musee.photo91@cd-essonne.fr.
