Once again, many artists released a new opus in 2024. But which artists sold the most records in France last year? And which musical styles came out on top? Find the answers with our ranking of the 200 best-selling albums in France in 2024. A Top 200 list compiled by Snep (the national phonographic publishing union) was unveiled on January 9, 2025.
Unsurprisingly, rap continues to ride the wave of success, with 12 (versus 14 last year) of the places in the Top 20 occupied by rappers. On the top step of the podium is Werenoi. The artist, crowned male revelation of the year at the Cérémonie des Flammes in 2023, is the artist who sold the most albums last year, thanks to the release of his second opus entitled"Pyramide". The rapper from Seine-et-Marne is also in 16th place with his debut album"Carré". Last year, Werenoi already topped the Top 20.
The Top 20 best-selling albums in France in 2024 also include PLK in second place with his opus"Chambre 140 Édition Part. 3", followed by SDM ( 8th), JUL( 10th, 11th and 13th), Gazo x Tiakola (12th), Dadju and Tayc (15th), SCH (17th), Tiakola (18th) and Bouss (19th).
The group Indochine also took third place, with their album"Babel Babel". American artist Billie Eilish, the first woman in this Top 20, ranks 4th, with her album"Hit Me Hard and Soft".
What's next? Pierre Garnier (5th) with his first opus"Chaque Seconde", the phenomenon Zaho de Sagazan (6th), the Enfoirés troupe( 7th), Taylor Swift (8th), Slimane ( 14th) and Santa ( 20th).
This ranking also demonstrates the good health of French productions, since 18 of the top 20 best-selling albums of 2024 are Francophone, and 145 French productions are ranked in the top 200 best-selling albums of 2024, i.e. 77%!
Emerging Francophone artists are also well represented, with 18 debut albums produced in France featuring in this year's top 200 albums.
And what about female artists? Unfortunately, they are once again poorly represented in this annual ranking. There are only 41 female records in the Top 200, although there has been a slight increase. Last year, Aya Nakamura was the only female artist in the top 20. This year, there are four: Billie Eilish, Zaho de Sagazan, Taylor Swift and Santa. Other female artists in the Top 200 include Dua Lipa, Mylène Farmer, Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter.
What about French chanson and variété? Artists are holding their own, with the presence - in this Top 200 - of Julien Doré ( 21st), Vianney (22nd), Florent Pagny (56th), Hoshi (57th), Johnny Hallyday (60th), Clara Luciani (63rd) and Louane (68th).
Snep also reports that 32 artists"place 2 or more albums" in the annual ranking. The famous rapper from Marseilles, JUL, alone has 8 projects on the list!
Find the full ranking on the official Snep website. It now remains to be seen whether this ranking will hold true for the Victoires de la Musique, whose 2025 nominations are due to be unveiled very soon.
