The Journées du Patrimoine is a must-attend event in September in Paris and the Ile-de-France region. This Europe-wide cultural event is a not-to-be-missed cultural bonanza! The concept? Over the course of a weekend, usually the third in September, museums, monuments, castles, churches and other places usually closed to the public reveal their secrets through free visits and original activities. It's a great way to rediscover our heritage in a different way, and a rare opportunity to enjoy a weekend marathon of cultural excursions.
For some, the Journées du Patrimoine are also an opportunity to explore lesser-known heritage sites, particularly in the Île-de-France region. Yes, the Paris region is full of heritage treasures to explore, particularly in Hauts-de-Seine! The town of Bourg-la-Reine, in the 92 département, is just a short Navigo ride away, and is one of the places where you could stop off to enjoy a wide-ranging program that could keep you busy for an entire day! We look forward to seeing you on September 21 and 22, 2024, to immerse yourself in the heritage of this astonishing town.

Heritage Days 2024 at the Bourg-la-Reine municipal technical center
In the second half of the XIXᵉ century, horticulture was predominant in Bourg-la-Reine, with more than half of its 178 hectares devoted to flower growing (44 hectares) and arboriculture (48 hectares). The greenhouses of violet specialist Armand Millet, and those of rose growers Jacques Margottin and Ferdinand Jamin, have made a major contribution to the international recognition of this emblematic activity. Inherited from this tradition, the city's municipal greenhouses are home to the plantations that beautify the city: 700 m² divided into a hot greenhouse (at 15°) for the protection and conservation of plants and seedlings, and three tunnels for the production of annual and biennial plants. Guided by the enthusiasts in charge, you'll discover the variety of plantings and species grown.
Les Bieilles Marnaises", an association that has been working to preserve our automotive heritage for over thirty years, will be showcasing some twenty vintage vehicles, including a 1939 version of the Citroën Traction, a cyclocar developed by the British after the war, and James Bond's Sunbeam (Dr No, 1964) and Marty's DeLorean (Back to the Future, 1985).
Heritage Days 2024 at the Dalpayrat collection in Bourg-la-Reine
Visit Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat's ceramics collection
Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat's particularity is to have developed a special color in his Bourg-la-Reine workshop: the famous "Dalpayrat red". Displayed in the house where he lived, the Art Nouveau-inspired flamed stoneware and polychrome earthenware inherited from the 18th century bear witness to the interpretation of a traditional skill: ceramics, which first appeared in the Neolithic period!
A permanent exhibition on the influence of Art Nouveau on his work, the inventiveness of his forms and his work with materials, the development of "Rouge Dalpayrat" and the ceramic tradition in Bourg-la-Reine, accompanies the visit.

Heritage Days 2024 at the Médiathèque François Villon in Bourg-la-Reine
Rumor and memoirists say so; historians have come up with a number of corroborating clues.
The king travelled through so many provinces at the controversial start of his memorable reign; he criss-crossed the outskirts of Paris and many of its villages. His itinerary begs the question: would Bourg-la-Reine have offered a refuge at Le Vert Galant to this king of many female conquests?
Heritage Days 2024 at the Villa Saint-Cyr in Bourg-la-Reine
Born in Bourg-la-Reine in 1826, he is the grandson of ceramist François Guillaume Mony, Poussin's successor at his La Madeleine earthenware factory, located at 39 avenue du Général Leclerc. In 1856, in this workshop belonging to his grandfather, he and Émile Lessore relaunched the artistic faïenceries, making the factory a meeting place for fashionable artists. He produced earthenware inspired by ancient majolica models, vases and dishes decorated on raw clay in the grand feu.
In 1871, together with Ernest Chaplet, who had joined him, they perfected a new technique known as "barbotine" on terracotta, enabling the raw clay to be painted as if on canvas. A process that the Manufacture de Sèvres had already developed for decorating porcelain, they adapted to earthenware. Barbotine, the fluid paste they used to glue together the parts of a ceramic vessel before firing (handles, spouts, etc.), enabled them to create highly elaborate, naturalistic decorations in relief on Impressionist-inspired ceramics.
Laurin showcased this invention at numerous international exhibitions, and enjoyed great success in the last quarter of the 19th century. At the same time, he played a very active role in the life of his commune, first as a town councillor, then as deputy mayor, from 1847 to 1896.
