Every year in September, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) offer a fabulous program of guided and self-guided tours, often free of charge, as well as original events at the heart of the most beautiful treasures of our heritage. Museums, monuments, castles, churches, institutions and much more, many cultural venues are playing their part for the occasion, including in the Paris region! While Paris is a real eye-catcher, the rest of the Île-de-France region also has plenty to offer enthusiasts and the curious, with its lesser-known heritage that's well worth the detour!
Just outside Paris is the town of Sceaux, in the Hauts-de-Seine department. Within easy navigating distance, this town, famous for its eponymous estate, is steeped in history. Heritage Days 2024 at Lycée Marie Curie
Historical and architectural tour of the Cité Scolaire Marie-Curie, led by student lecturers. The tour, lasting around an hour, will be preceded by a slide show. Places limited, reservations essential.
Heritage Days 2024 at Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Sceaux
Guided tours by volunteer parish guides on the history, architecture and décor of the church, built over 800 years ago and listed as a historic monument since 1929.
Tours of approx. 1hr15 at 3.00pm and 3.45pm.

Heritage Days 2024 at Lycée Lakanal in Sceaux
The Cité Scolaire Lakanal is home to the Charles-Koechlin instrumental ensemble, directed by Marc Deleplace. Access through the door at the corner of allée d'Honneur and avenue Claude-Perrault.
Tours led by the Association of Friends and Former Students of Lycée Lakanal (AAAELLK).

Documented walk (plans, photos, written material) starting from the old cattle market buildings, following the old "chemin de grande communication" as the village developed, accelerated by the arrival of the train, then modified by road networks, parking lots and the "coulée verte" (green corridor) and its soft pathways.
