Jane Birkin, France's favorite Englishwoman, has died. Her body was found on Sunday July 16. Due to suffer a stroke in 2021, she had recently cancelled several concerts due to her state of health. She was 76 years old.
Born in London on December 14, 1946, she was best known in France, where she spent most of her life. Married, among others, to Serge Gainsbourg, the duo were highly publicized and productive in both film and music. "Je t'aime... Moi non plus", is their best-known song. It's a film, but also a song, whose lyrics created a scandal.
Throughout her 50-plus-year career, Jane Birkin has appeared in almost 100 films, including two as a director. Her last appearance was in the documentary Jane par Charlotte, a lovely portrait directed by her daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg. She is also the author of fourteen studio albums. She has spent the last few years touring the world in concert.
The whole of France will remember her unique accent, her beautiful voice and her cult works.
