Will an unlimited Rail Pass costing around €49 be launched in France in summer 2024? That was indeed the statement made by Transport Minister Clément Beaune this Thursday morning.

French President Emmanuel Macron mentioned it during his interview with Hugo Décrypte, broadcast live on Youtube on September 4: France is considering introducing an unlimited train package along the lines of our German neighbors' Deutschlandticket, already subscribed to by 11 million Germans.

This Thursday, September 7, 2023, Transport Minister Clément Beaune confirmed, during an interview on France 2's Telematin, the government's intention to introduce such a flat-rate offer by summer 2024. This would concern TER and Intercités trains.

"I want it to be simple; I want the French, whatever their age, to be able to buy this Pass and travel on Intercités or TER trains on an unlimited basis for a single, inexpensive price," he declared this morning, continuing that this unlimited Rail Pass could also include " buses, metros and streetcars in our major cities."

He continues, "From September, I'm going to start this discussion with the regional presidents (so that) the product is available next summer." As for the price, Clément Beaune didn't give a precise figure, but said it would be around €49, like the Deutschlandticket. To be continued.
