If you're used to getting on or off at Gare d'Austerlitz station, then you couldn't miss it. Since November 2022, line 5 at Gare d'Austerlitz station has been undergoing major renovation. The work, part of the vast project to restructure the Gare d'Austerlitz hub, is scheduled to last three and a half years, and will continue until the end of 2027.
The aim? To " improve and, above all, simplify passenger travel between the different modes of transport: metro, trains, RER, buses and soft mobility ", says RATP on its website, adding that " new passenger areas will be created ".
In detail, in a few years' time, passengers will benefit from a more direct and fluid journey, with, for example, the installation of escalators to facilitate journeys and enable them to move more quickly from one mode of transport or line to another. "At the end of the works, everything will be simpler: it will no longer be necessary to leave the station to take the metro, and all connections will be made directly via the station's Grande Halle," explains RATP. Thanks to this new route, it will be easier to travel between metro line 5 and the train, RER C or line 10.
But these changes are not without consequences for passengers. RATP has announced the closure of the Gare d'Austerlitz station on metro line 5 for around 6 months. Specifically, the Gare d'Austerlitz station will be closed from October 19, 2023 to April 17, 2024 inclusive, "a period during which line 5 trains will not stop there ", according to RATP.
Throughout this closure, users are invited to use the"surrounding stations", preferring Saint-Marcel, considered to be the closest to Gare d'Austerlitz, some 500 meters away. Another option? Transfer upstream from another station.
Gare d'Austerlitz station, on metro line 5, will reopen on April 18, 2024, with renovated platforms and a reconfigured exchange hall on the Cour Museum side. " The connecting corridors will remain closed for some time, however, and the station will remain under construction until the end of 2027 ," warns RATP.
For the time being, only the Gare d'Austerlitz station on line 5 is affected by this temporary closure. The other lines, metro line 10 and RER C, are operating"normally" and remain"accessible during the closure".
