RER C: reopening of the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station this Monday after 8 months of work

Good news for RER C users, the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station in Paris will finally reopen this Monday, April 17, 2023. The modernization works, had finally been delayed and lasted 8 months, instead of 4!

This time, we are not announcing the postponement of the reopening of the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station! It's even good news, since it's finally this Monday, April 17, 2023 that its doors will open again to welcome you, on the RER line C. This work was supposed to end on December 19, 2022, just before Christmas, but had finally been postponed, making the work last for eight months, instead of four!

A long time of closure, since the station is no longer served since August 21, 2022, not very convenient for users of the RER C and tourists who wanted to enjoy the Ile de la Cité. End of the galley, with a brand new station, after these important modernization works undertaken.

The aim of this project, financed by Île-de-France Mobilités and managed by SNCF Gares & Connexions, is to "Toimprove the comfort of users thanks to the addition of natural light and the restructuring of passenger areas," explained the SNCF in a press release. In addition, these modernization works should also allow the creation of two escalators, and to secure the site thanks to the"renewal of the electrical installations and the creation of anti-crash devices".

As revealed by our colleagues in Le Parisien, the work was delayed due to the discovery of asbestos and lead on the site. " This extension of the duration of the work is due to the discovery of asbestos residues during the demolition of partitions and floors and traces of lead on certain metal structures," SNCF Gares&Connexions, the site manager, told Le Parisien, specifying that " the asbestos is non-volatile and poses no danger to local residents, travelers and people working on the site, as well as traces of lead that are found in confined work areas.
