In the meantime, the old metros on line 11, which were almost 60 years old, are gradually being replaced by brand-new MP14 trains. The MP14s are the famous automatic trains already in use on line 14 and line 4. On line 11, on the other hand, these new metros will be operated by drivers. The ultimate aim is to"replace the 23 old MP59 trains with 20 MP14 trains", explains Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM). However, to enable the new trains to be deployed, IDFM and RATP have had to close line 11 on several occasions in recent months, either partially or totally. And this work will continue over the coming months.
While line 11 is closed every evening from 10pm onwards, including Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, until December 21, 2023, further disruptions to metro line 11 are scheduled for 2024, in preparation for the entry into service of the eastern extension.
Mark your calendars: line 11 will be completely closed on six occasions: Sunday January 21, 2024, Sunday February 4, Sunday March 10, Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24, and Sunday April 28 , 2024. On these days, traffic will be interrupted on the entire brown line of the Paris metro, between Châtelet and Mairie des Lilas. To help passengers with their journeys, RATP has announced the introduction of a replacement shuttle bus between République and Porte des Lilas.
Metro line 11 will also be closed all day between Belleville and Mairie des Lilas stations for 16 consecutive days, from Friday April 12 to Saturday April 27, 2024 inclusive. During this long closure, Pyrénées, Jourdain, Place des Fêtes, Télégraphe, Porte des Lilas and Place des Lilas stations will be closed to users. Belleville station will become the temporary terminus.
From now on, RATP invites passengers to transfer to connecting metro, bus, RER and tramway lines, such as RER A, but also lines 1, 3 and 4.
