Since May 6, the RER E has been extended westwards to Nanterre-La-Folie. But users have to be patient, with a limited number of trains and modified timetables. From mid-December 2024, all trains from the east will be extended to Nanterre-la-Folie. Thanks to this extended service, passengers will be able to enjoy 16 trains per hour during rush hour.

It was a long-awaited transport line extension in the Paris region. Since May 6, the RER E has been extended westwards, with the opening of three brand-new stations. First there's Nanterre-la-Folie station, the new temporary terminus, then La Défense Grande Arche and finally Neuilly-Porte Maillot Palais des Congrès.

The RER NG (for"New Generation") trains are particularly beautiful and comfortable, but you'll need to be patient to get on board, or arrive at the right time.

This is because, since its inauguration on May 6, train timetables have been adjusted. On this new section, trains only run between 10:00 and 16:00 on weekdays, and between 10:00 and 20:00 on weekends and public holidays. During these periods, there will be 1 train every 15 minutes. In addition, to reach one of these three new stations from the east of the line, an interconnection is required, either at Haussmann - Gare Saint-Lazare, or at Magenta - Gare du Nord.

RER E extension: when will transport services be extended?

But when will the transport offer be extended on this RER E extension? When will it be possible to use this new section on weekdays, early in the morning or late at night?

Île-de-France Mobilités (IDFM) announced on November 27 that this famous section will take up its true cruising rhythm from mid-December 2024, more precisely from December 15. "A new era for your journeys on the RER E from December 15, 2024", reads a message on IDFM's social networks.

From this date onwards, all trains from the east will be extended to Nanterre-la-Folie. There will be 16 trains per hour during rush hour, i.e. one train every 4 minutes! In off-peak hours, this means 1 train every 6 minutes. Thanks to this expanded service and the arrival of 34 new RER N trains, the RER E becomes the"most modern" RER linein the Paris region. It is also the most interconnected RER line.

Thanks to this extension to the west, time savings are considerable. It takes just 10 minutes to get from Magenta station (Gare du Nord) to La Défense.
