The Declaration of the Rights of the Child celebrates its 100th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the City of Paris is inviting Parisians under the age of 21 to take part in the 'Inside Out' project created by the famous artist JR. The aim? To give birth to a monumental, ephemeral photographic work, to be discovered on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville this Saturday, October 5, 2024. We tell you all about it.

Artist JR returns to Paris with his international art project"Inside Out". "Inside Out" is a platform that helps Group Leaders unite communities around a message or cause. Together, they display their portraits in the public space, giving rise to participative works of art.

This autumn, to mark the centenary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, the City of Paris is organizing"Inside Out", a committed, free and participatory artistic event. Don't miss it this Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 11am to 5pm, in the heart of the capital.

The idea? Invite children and teenagers under the age of 21 to pose and take part in a monumental, ephemeral photographic work by JR. These portraits - in large format (135 x 91cm) - will form a huge collage, to be installed on October 5 on the forecourt of the Hôtel de Ville.

Children and teenagers (age limit 21) are invited to join the"Inside Out" photo booth set up for the occasion on the forecourt of Paris City Hall, from 11am to 5pm.

How does it work? Participants are photographed inside the booth. In less than a minute, the portrait is printed in large format by the printer. The"Inside Out" team then glues the portrait to the ground in front of the Hôtel de Ville to create this collective work of art.

As the City of Paris explains in a press release published on October 2, " children's photos will only be taken with parental authorization ".

JR 's giant, ephemeral, participatory collage celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It was on September 26, 1924, that the League of Nations adopted the Geneva Declaration on the Rights of the Child, thanks to the commitment of activist and schoolteacher Eglantyne Jebb. " This founding text asserted for the first time that children have rights, and changed the way humanity looks at them. In 100 years, huge strides have been made to respect and protect children, but much remains to be done ," explains the City of Paris in the same press release.

In addition to this monumental photographic work by JR to be discovered this October 5, 2024, the City of Paris is also announcing a free, fun exhibition. To be discovered along the fountains of the Hôtel de Ville square, from October 5 to 16, this open-air installation will be an opportunity to learn more about the evolution of children's rights.
