Météo France has placed the Île-de-France region, along with 27 other départements, under a vigilance orange for snow and freezing rain this Thursday, November 21, 2024. With the arrival of a low-pressure system named CAETANO, a cocktail of cold and precipitation is likely to disrupt the region, where a few centimeters of snow could be added to the expected freezing rain. As of 10am, the Ile-de-France region has been placed under a " snow-verglas " orange alert. This alert is expected to remain in force throughout the day and evening. Météo France announces the end of this orange vigilance on Friday, at around 6am.
" From mid-morning on Thursday (around 10am), snowfall will approach the region from the west. Intensity will be low to moderate, with intermittent precipitation in the northeast and more continuous towards the south/southwest. The snow (wet to damp) is sticking to the ground " warns the weather service, which adds that, over the whole of this snowy episode, we are expecting " 1 to 3cm over northern Seine-et-Marne, Paris and a northeastern part of the Petite Couronne; 3 to 7cm elsewhere, locally 10cm (south and heights preferentially) over Yvelines, Essonne and southern Seine-et-Marne ".
As a result, there could be disruptions on some public transport services in Paris and the Île-de-France region. On its website, Transilien warns that " snowfall and icy conditions are likely to disrupt traffic on certain Transilien lines " in the Paris region this Thursday, November 21.
Several stations on the RER and Transilien networks could therefore be affected by this snowy episode. As the SNCF reminds us on its website,"snowfall and frost can have an impact on rail infrastructure and cause disruption to traffic".
Transilien is therefore warning of possible disruptions to transport services in the Paris region this Thursday. Transilien advises passengers to check train schedules before arriving at stations.
In addition, an SNCF strike is likely to disrupt train traffic this Thursday, November 21.
