This Wednesday, October 9, 2024, heavy rain is expected in Paris and the Île-de-France region due to the arrival of Storm Kirk. As a result, traffic is likely to be disrupted on some Île-de-France public transport systems. Transilien advises passengers to check train timetables before arriving at stations.

At 8am on Wednesday October 9, rain was already falling in the streets of Paris. And the weather's not going to get any better as the day goes on. Heavy precipitation is expected in the capital and elsewhere in the Paris region this October 9, due to the Kirk low-pressure system.

The remnants of Hurricane Kik arrive in France. This Wednesday morning, October 9, 2024, Météo France placed 30 départements under a "vigilance orange" for rain and flooding, as well as high winds in certain departments, including the Île-de-France region, as well as Mayenne, Oise, Aisne and Loire. According to Météo France, this extratropical low-pressure system will bring heavy rain, particularly to the west of France and the Paris region. [Read more]

As of 12pm, the Ile-de-France region is under a " rain and flood " orange alert. This alert is expected to remain in force throughout the day and evening. Météo France announces the end of this orange vigilance on Wednesday night, at around 2am.

" The passage of ex-hurricane "KIRK" will bring moderate to heavy rain to the whole region until mid-night on Wednesday to Thursday " warns the weather service, adding that " over the whole rainy episode, which will last around 24 hours, rainfall totals will be very high, with 40 to 70 mm most often, and even 80 mm very locally in southern Yvelines, Essonne and Seine-et-Marne ". In Paris, 60 to 65 mm of rain is forecast.

As a result, there could be disruptions on some public transport services in Paris and the Île-de-France region. On its website, Transilien warns that " heavy rain from the KIRK low-pressure system is likely to disrupt traffic " in the Paris region this Wednesday, October 9.

Several RER and Transilien stations, as well as some metro stations, could be flooded and become inaccessible. Already, on Monday October 7, the Porte de Clichy metro station on line 14 was flooded by torrential rain around 9pm. As a result, the Porte de Clichy station had to close its doors to passengers. This was reported on the X account of the 'Plus de trains' association, relayed by our colleagues in Le Parisien.

So, should we expect further flooding in some stations this October 9? The situation is likely to be closely monitored. Transilien is therefore warning of possible disruptions to Paris and Ile-de-France transport services. Transilien advises passengers to check train schedules before arriving at stations.
