Nuit des Musées celebrates art and culture once again this Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Paris and the Ile-de-France region. In Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, in the Yvelines department, the Musée de la batellerie et des voies navigables (Museum of inland waterways) is preparing a wonderful cultural evening on the banks of the Seine. Mark your calendars! Nuit des Musées, the free, not-to-be-missed evening that celebrates art and culture in the heart of museums from dusk onwards, is back on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Paris and the Île-de-France region. It's a unique opportunity to discover the permanent collections and temporary exhibitions from a different angle, in an atmosphere that's often different and surprising.

The program for this exceptional evening includes special activities, artistic performances, screenings, lectures and guided tours. The Nuit des Musées is a truly immersive experience, bringing together enthusiasts and the curious to experience art in an original and entertaining way.

The Nuit des Musées 2025 is a chance to spotlight Paris' finest institutions, as well as the cultural treasures nestled just a few transilien stations away from the capital. One of these, the Musée de la batellerie et des voies navigables in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine ( 78), located on the banks of the Seine, is an emblematic site ofFrench river history. The building is entirely dedicated to the world of boatmen, the men who for centuries transported goods on France's rivers and canals.

With models, tools, photographs and period documents, the museum takes you back in time to the days when barges and scows reigned supreme on the waterways. It also invites you to discover the trades, traditions and skills that have shaped the history of river navigation in France.

The Nuit des Musées 2025 program at the Musée de la batellerie et des voies navigables :

  • Opening of the Grand Cellier gothique - Saturday, May 17, 6pm
    Exceptional opening of the 13th-century Grand Cellier, a vestige of the former priory built by monks from the Bec-Hellouin abbey in Normandy; now home to the Musée de la batellerie et des voies navigables collection of pleasure boats.
  • Poésies batelières" tours - Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 4pm, 5pm and 6pm
    Free event with reservation (maximum 60 people), students from the Conservatoire Communal - George Gershwin will give 3 "Poésies batelières" tours: 45-minute strolls around the museum reciting poems written by bargemen in the 1950s. Reservations required.
  • Duets for violin and cello - Saturday May 17, 2025 at 7.15pm, 8.15pm, 9.15pm and 10.15pm
    Madame Erte (professor at the Conservatoire Communal - George Gershwin) will be accompanied by Madame Chirol to perform duets for violin and cello.
  • Exhibition - Saturday, May 17, 2025 from 6 pm to 10:30 pm
    From the end of the 19th century, Conflans underwent rapid change: the village on the banks of the Seine was transformed into a major river crossroads, proudly assuming its title of "capital of inland navigation". Our town - unlike many others - never turned its back on its river. The exhibition will retrace the history of Conflans' waterways, as well as that of the barge industry as a whole. Main themes: "Conflans, towing and towage", "Conflans, port of small-scale inland navigation", "The sedentary institutions of inland navigation in Conflans".
