The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is this July 26. For the first time in history, it will be held in the very heart of Paris, rather than in a stadium. Our eyes are riveted on the weather forecast for what promises to be a unique day. As the forecasts become clearer, we're telling you all you need to know to be prepared for every eventuality!

Will it be sunny or rainy for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games? The question arises given the capricious and changeable weather we've been experiencing since the start of summer. Whether it's scorching hot or raining, if you're taking part in the ceremony, the watchword is: anticipate!

And let's face it, it's not looking good for the evening... According to the latest forecasts from Météo France, rain is in the air. While sunshine seemed assured a few days ago, the forecast has changed, leaving room for a deterioration towards the end of the evening. This Friday, July 26, thousands of people are expected to flock to the banks of the Seine to watch the nearly four-hour show. The ceremony kicks off at 7.30pm sharp, and is broadcast live by France Télévisions and Eurosport.

Early weather forecasts for the evening of the ceremony seemed optimistic, but rain was finally expected to join the festivities. In Paris, the skies were gray all day and will remain so throughout the evening, with showers expected from 6pm, and at least until 8pm the following day. Temperatures will gradually drop, from 24 to 20 degrees between 4pm and 11pm.

What exactly can we expect? According to La Chaîne Météo, further rain will move up from the Orléanais region to the Paris basin, with moderate to heavy showers lasting throughout the ceremony (cumulative rainfall expected between 9pm and 11pm). The forecasts differ slightly, however: the German model predicts a few showers right up to the ceremony, while the American model predicts only a few residual drops. The European and Swiss models are more optimistic, suggesting a retreat of showers to the south and east of the Paris region, leaving Paris dry during the ceremony.

One thing's for sure: the evening of Friday, July 26, 2024 in Paris will be dominated by clouds, with temperatures around 20-21°C and very light winds. As these showers will be local, it will be essential to follow the precipitation radars live during Friday evening.

If you're attending the opening ceremony, make sure you read all the practical information and instructions to avoid getting stuck. Note, for example, that only small, collapsible umbrellas will be allowed, and it would be a shame to have to abandon yours for lack of the right size. Otherwise, a good raincoat will do the trick!
