It was a good day for Pauline Ferrand-Prévot! The five-time world cross-country mountain bike champion finally took the gold medal this Sunday, July 28, 2024, on the hill of Elancourt.

And 5 for the French team! After two medals in judo, one in fencing and one in rugby 7s, it's the mountain bike cross-country discipline that has picked up a new one, the second in gold. Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, five-time world champion, had never managed to climb onto an Olympic podium, after three unsuccessful participations. This time, she was the great favorite, on this very long 7-lap course on the hill of Elancourt, in the Yvelines region, and she is now Olympic champion!

The 32-year-old literally crushed her rivals with a big lead from the start of the course, and almost three minutes at the finish, thanks to great stamina and no false steps. She could have been joined on the podium by team-mate Loana Lecomte, a bronze medal contender for a few laps, but unfortunately the latter crashed heavily on a downhill and had to retire.

A superb medal, absolutely deserved, to the applause of the public who cheered him on throughout the 4.4 kilometers.
