After a memorable opening ceremony, the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have begun in earnest. Until August 11, sports lovers are having a field day between boxing andfencing bouts, tennis and table tennis matches, or skateboarding, gymnastics and swimming events.
Another sport very popular with the French? Judo. At the time of writing, France has already won three medals in this discipline. It all began with Shirine Boukli. The judoka set the ball rolling with her first bronze medal in her category (-48 kg) last Saturday. A few hours later, Luka Mkheidze won a silver medal (-60 kg). Then, on Sunday July 28, French judoka Amandine Buchard took third place with a bronze medal (-52 kg).
Before Teddy Riner's eagerly-awaited bout, many are hoping for another judo medal thanks to Clarisse Agbegnenou. The judoka, gold medallist at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, is in search of a second consecutive Olympic title.
