After a few setbacks and the postponement of the triathlon event due to poor water quality in the Seine, originally scheduled for Tuesday July 30, 2024, the start of the women's triathlon was given this Wednesday July 31 at 8am, under the magnificent Alexandre III bridge.
On the program, the female athletes had to complete three endurance sports: open-water swimming, road cycling and running, over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swim, 40 km cycle and 10 km run). Joining the leading pack from the start of the race, Cassandre Beaugrand held her own throughout the run, alongside Switzerland's Julie Derron (silver), Britain's Beth Potter (bronze) and France's Emma Lombardi.
During the third lap of the run, Cassandre Beaugrand gradually distanced herself from her rivals, establishing herself as Olympic champion in the discipline, the very first Frenchwoman in history to win this title, at these Paris 2024 Games, just 6 seconds ahead of the new Olympic runner-up in women's triathlon.
The second French athlete to qualify, Emma Lombardi, took fourth place in the discipline, just 21 seconds faster than Cassandre Beaugrand.
