Just like para table tennis, wheelchair basketball, goalball or para track cycling and para athletics, para triathlon could also bring together many French fans behind the small screen. To be followed this Monday, September 2, 2024, the para triathlon takes place around the Pont Alexandre III. Once again, athletes will have to outdo themselves in three disciplines, namely swimming (750 m), cycling (20 km) and then running (5 km). The events were originally scheduled for Sunday, September 1, but were postponed due to poor water quality.
So, can France hope to win a medal in para triathlon ? The question remains unanswered for the moment, but several French athletes are worth keeping a close eye on, such as Alexis Hanquinquant, expected to compete in the PTS4 category. In para triathlon, the classification is based on the letters PT for para triathlon, followed by the disability in English, "WC" for"wheelchair", "S" for"standing" and "VI" for"visual impairment".
The PTS ("Para triathlon standing") classification ranges from 2 to 5, depending on "upper limb and/or lower limb disability, but not requiring the use of a handbike or wheelchair", according to the Paralympic Games website.
Designated flag-bearer for the French delegation at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, alongside Nantenin Keïta, Alexis Hanquinquant has a large number of medals won in recent years!
The French para-athlete has been crowned world champion six times (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023) in the PTS4 category. At the European Championships, he won gold 6 times (2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023). At the last Paralympic Games, in Tokyo in 2021, Alexis Hanquinquant won the gold medal, climbing to the top step of the podium!
So, will the para athlete repeat the feat this summer in Paris? To find out, don't miss him at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Wondering what channel, day and time to follow Alexis Hanquinquant in para triathlon? Take note: the French para-athlete is expected around the Pont Alexandre III this Monday, September 2, at around 12.30pm.
The Paris Paralympic Games can be followed on France Télévisions Group channels, including France 2, France 3 and France 5.
