The French fencers dominated this small team sabre final, winning by a wide margin against the Iranians, 45 points to 25. A bronze medal now adorns the necks of Bolade Apithy, Sébastien Patrice, Maxime Pianfetti and substitute Jean-Philippe Patrice, who took to the piste for a duel.
After losing to the Koreans in the semi-finals, the French were able to climb onto the podium. The sabreurs quickly recovered from this disappointment to offer us some very fine duels against Iran. The French fencers were efficient, imposing their rhythm, and quickly opened up the gap to their opponents, leaving them no chance.
Unhappy in the individual tournaments, the sabreurs pulled together to reach the podium in the team competition. The result was France's 23rd medal of these Olympic Games, and their 6th fencing victory in Paris.
Will France be able to keep up this amazing momentum? The French fencers still have four medal chances over the next few days.
