After being crowned European champion three years running (in 2020, 2021 and 2022), Cyrian Ravet came to Paris to claim a title he had been missing: a place on the Olympic podium, in the men's under 58 kgs category.
It's France's 49th medal of these Games: taekwondoist Cyrian Ravet has just taken the 3rd step of the podium in his category, at just 21 years of age. After winning his round-of-16 match this morning against Georgiy Gurtsiev and then losing to Park Tae-joon, he was finally drafted in and defeated Venezuela's Yohandri Granado.
Tonight, he was due to face Italy's Vito Dell'Aquila for the bronze medal: in the end, he got it without even having to fight, as the Italian taekwondoist withdrew, having injured his left adductor muscle in the semi-finals and not showing up for the fight.
The bronze medal rounds off the French medal table, and gives the young athlete his very first Olympic podium title.
