The atmosphere in the heart of the stadiums at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been the envy of people around the world, so many French and foreign fans have given their all to liven up the events. If the same fervor is hoped for at the Paralympic Games, from August 28 to September 9, the athletes' visual, hearing or motor disabilities require some adaptations from the public during the celebrations.
Here's an overview of the slight changes that need to be made to respect Paralympic athletes in certain disciplines, while still setting fire to the Paralympic venues !
As in the Olympic version, it's important to respect the horse and rider, and to keep quiet when they pass so as not to disturb the animal. What's more, at the Paralympic Games, there's only dressage, no show jumping at the Château de Versailles.
The public at the Stade Tour Eiffel and Arena Paris Sud must be very quiet during the game, so that blind or partially-sighted players can listen to the ball's movements, made possible by bells inside the ball.
In this discipline at the Stade de France, visually impaired athletes are guided by their guide, who claps his hands to indicate the direction in which to jump. They must also observe a moment of silence during their trials.
