This time, no stations closed along the Seine for a week, no QR codes to request in advance - in short, the galley will only last a day and it will be very localized! This opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 on the Place de la Concorde, and for the occasion, a security perimeter has been set up, with metro stations closed and access for motorized vehicles prohibited over a large portion around the Champs-Elysées.
On the metro front, there's nothing very new, as the Champs-Elysées station once again closed its doors on Thursday August 22, in addition to the Concorde and Tuileries stations, which have been closed since May and will not reopen until September. However, some accesses will close in addition, notably Franklin D. Roosevelt, closed on line 9, as will accesses to the Champs-Elysées traffic circle. For Musée d'Orsay station, the RER entrances on Quai Anatole France will be closed, while for Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre, those within the security perimeter will be closed.
On the tramway side, only the T2 is impacted, with the closure of Porte d'Issy and Porte de Versailles, so the terminus becomes Suzanne Lenglen. The routes of many buses in the area have also been modified.
As for cars and motorcycles, traffic will be impossible in a wide perimeter stretching from Porte Maillot to Faubourg Saint-Honoré to the north, as far as the Trocadéro and behind the Louvre. If you can, avoid the area as much as possible, unless you have a special dispensation. Pedestrians and cyclists can circulate freely in this red perimeter, but not in the grey zone, reserved for accredited persons and ticket holders.
If you must attend the ceremony, prefer to come on foot or by bike, or by public transport, getting off at Madeleine, Assemblée nationale, Franklin D. Roosevelt or Invalides and Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre.
Note that the athletes will come from the Paralympic Village and start their parade at the bottom of the Champs-Elysées. As a result, traffic on theA1 and the westernring road will be more difficult in the late afternoon.
