La Nouvelle Femme, written and directed by Léa Todorov, immerses us in Paris in 1900, before taking us to Rome. This historical drama showcases the talents of Jasmine Trinca, as Maria Montessori, and Leïla Bekhti, playing a mother determined to give her disabled daughter a future.
The story follows Lili d'Alengy, a famous Parisian courtesan played by Laila Bekhti. Her life takes an unexpected turn when she decides to leave Paris for Rome, fleeing the shame of the birth of her disabled daughter Tina. In Rome, she meets Maria Montessori, played by Jasmine Trinca, an avant-garde doctor working on a revolutionary educational method for children considered "deficient" at the time. Rafaëlle Sonneville-Caby plays the young Tina, whose destiny becomes intertwined with that of these two exceptional women.
Jasmine Trinca is renowned for her outstanding roles in films such as La Meilleure Jeunesse and Nos enfants, which have earned her international acclaim. Leïla Bekhti, meanwhile, made her name in La Source des femmes and Tout ce qui brille, proving her talent in powerful, inspiring roles. Rafaëlle Sonneville-Caby makes her film debut with this role.
