The Cannes Film Festival 2024 is drawing to a close, and the awards are starting to pour in. While the Semaine de la Critique, Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Un Certain Regard and La Cinef selections have already unveiled their prize lists, and the Queer Palm, Palm Dog and Prix du Cinéma Positif have been revealed, it's now the turn of theOeil d'Or 2024 to be awarded.
As a reminder, theOeil d'Or is awarded each year to the best documentary film of the Cannes Film Festival, all categories included. For this 2024 edition, the Oeil d'Or jury was made up of director Dyana Gaye, producer Elise Jalladeau, director Francis Legault and actress Mina Kavani, under the chairmanship of director Nicolas Philibert.
This year, not one but two documentary films tied for the Oeil d'Or at Cannes 2024: Raoul Peck 's Ernest Cole, photographe (I Am Not Your Negro), about the life of the South African photographer, presented in Special Screening, and Nada Riyadh and Ayman El Amir's Les Filles du Nil (Rafaat einy il sama - The Brink of Dreams), unveiled in Critics' Week.
