The Forum des images reopens its doors for the 2024-2025 season with a rich and eclectic program. All year long, festivals and encounters will punctuate this season, between cinema, video games and immersive works to "remake everything", together.
Under the banner "Tout refaire", four major themes are in the spotlight: "Refaire l'amour" explores romantic comedy and new love relationships. "Elles sont là pour rester" spotlights ten influential French women directors. "Who remembers the Cambodian genocide?" looks back at forgotten historical tragedies, and "Aux frontières de l'humain" questions our future in a changing world.
The first theme, "Refaire l'amour", revisits romantic comedies and relationships in a modern context. In the age of dating apps and new forms of communication, human relationships are evolving, and with them, the way they are portrayed on screen. This cycle offers a critical and innovative look at the evolution of couple dynamics, from passion to break-ups and renewal. Through a selection of films and debates, the Forum des images examines new ways of experiencing love in the 21st century, in resonance with current social upheavals. This cycle will be an opportunity to discover or rediscover cult films and more confidential works, for a collective reflection on sentimental and intimate questions.
The second major focus of the season is devoted to highlighting contemporary French women directors. Entitled "Elles sont là pour rester" ("They're here to stay"), this program highlights ten women filmmakers whose work has marked, and continues to mark, the French cinematic landscape. Through their work, these women directors bring unique and often innovative perspectives to subjects as diverse as the intimate, the social and the political. This cycle will not only be an opportunity to screen their films, but also to create moments of exchange with these creators, enabling us to understand their careers, their challenges and their vision of today's cinema. A vibrant tribute to female talent in an industry still often dominated by men.
One of this season's most poignant themes is "Who remembers the Cambodian genocide? This cycle looks back at one of the most tragic human tragedies of the 20th century, often forgotten or little-known by the general public. Through a series of documentaries, fictions and encounters, the Forum des images will explore the causes, consequences and, above all, oblivion of the genocide perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge between 1975 and 1979. This cycle will be a highlight of the season, highlighting the need to remember in order to better understand the present and prevent such horrors from happening again. This duty to remember is fully in line with the Forum des images' mission to question representations and raise awareness through cinema.
Finally, "At the frontiers of the human" invites us to reflect on the profound transformations of our times and what it means to be human in the age of advanced technologies, artificial intelligence and climate change. This cycle tackles themes as varied as the ethics of science, the evolution of technology and the impact of artificial intelligence on our daily lives. Through science-fiction films, futuristic documentaries and immersive artistic works, the Forum des images questions our common future. The program is sure to provoke passionate debate about humanity, the future of our planet and man's place in this ever-changing environment.
The Forum des images thus continues to be a space where different forms of audiovisual expression converge, enabling all audiences to find programming that appeals to them. Whether you're an experienced film buff, a fan of new technologies or simply curious, this new season offers a unique opportunity to discover strong, committed works, while taking part in enriching exchanges with today's artists and thinkers. A not-to-be-missed opportunity for all lovers of cinema andaudiovisual art, eager to rediscover the world through the prism of the image.
