At CES 2025 in Las Vegas, Sony announced the development of a film adapted from the hit video game Helldivers 2, in collaboration with its PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures branches. This announcement is part of a wider strategy of adaptations of Sony's flagship licenses.

Good news for movie-loving gamers... CES 2025, held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9, was an opportunity for Sony to unveil several major projects. Among them, the film adaptation of Helldivers 2, a video game developed by Arrowhead and published by PlayStation Studios. The announcement was made at Sony's press conference, which featured revelations about several adaptations from the PlayStation universe, including Ghost of Tsushima as an animated series, and Horizon Zero Dawn as a feature film.

Asad Qizilbash, director of PlayStation Productions, confirmed the collaboration between Sony Productions and Sony Pictures for this project. " I'm delighted to announce that we're working with Sony Pictures to develop a film adaptation of our incredibly popular PlayStation game Helldivers 2," he explains. No further information has been released as yet, leaving fans to speculate on casting or release schedule.

Helldivers 2 is largely inspired by the Starship Troopers universe. It plunges players into a struggle to defend a totalitarian regime against alien enemies, namely (for the time being in the game) Terminids, Automatons and Illuminists, while propagating the ideals of a "managed democracy". A true commercial success, it sold 12 million copies in just 12 weeks, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game ever.

With these projects, Sony confirms its desire to extend its franchises beyond video games, reinforcing the interconnection between its divisions. Helldivers 2 joins a growing list of PlayStation titles being brought to the screen, after The Last of Us, a season of which is expected on Max in 2025.
