LEGO Horizon Adventures, the LEGO video game based on Aloy's adventures, surprised everyone at Summer Game Fest 2024 with its surprising fusion of the Horizon Zero Dawn universe and the famous LEGO bricks! The game was back in the news shortly afterwards, at the Nintendo Direct on August 27. LEGO Horizon Adventures will be available on PC, PS5 and Nintendo Switch from November 14, 2024.
Officially announced on the first day of Summer Game Fest, LEGO Horizon Adventures caused quite a stir with its trailer revealing a post-apocalyptic world filled with mechanical dinosaurs and typical LEGO game humor. Developed by Guerrilla Games in collaboration with Studio Gobo, the game promises to take the characteristic elements of the Horizon saga and add the playful, offbeat touch of LEGO. Players will embody Aloy, accompanied by Rost, in an adventure as entertaining as it is epic, available on PS5, PC and, against all odds, Nintendo Switch.
The surprise of this announcement lies in the game's availability on Nintendo's handheld console. Usually licensed under PlayStation, Horizon is expanding its audience thanks to a novel partnership, reminiscent of the previous success of LEGO games on Nintendo consoles. The idea? Reach a younger audience, while reinforcing the popularity of the Horizon franchise with LEGO fans.
Our review of LEGO Horizon Adventures:
So, does the mix of genres between the Horizon franchise and LEGO work? On paper, yes, but in reality, we're rather divided. Graphically speaking, there's nothing to complain about: LEGO Horizon Adventures is very beautiful, very colorful and very LEGO. It's a successful blend.
In terms of gameplay, it's a little tight, but still does the job well, with relatively simple handling (to allow younger players to get into the game), which becomes more and more elaborate as you progress through the game. But it remains fairly repetitive. What we also missed: the "puzzle" aspect of LEGO games, as the constructions offered here are merely incidental. That's a shame.
Another repetition is the "corridor game" aspect: noopen world, which differs greatly from the Horizon saga. But the choice remains logical, the idea being to adapt to the software's target audience, i.e. young people. For those accustomed to the open-world saga, we'll have to pass. It's worth noting, however, that some of the levels are very beautiful, such as the chase for the Great Neck, a real treat.
Story-wise, the game focuses on the first installment... A "very free" adaptation that was a little hard to understand (the beginning bears very little resemblance to the start ofHorizon Zero Dawn), but the LEGO humor is there, and the game is adapted to its target, which is very cool! An ideal way to introduce your kids to the Horizon license, before tackling Guerrilla Games' two other games. All you have to do is make up your own mind!
LEGO Horizon Adventures offers both single-player and local cooperative multiplayer. Ready to get back in action with the LEGO version of Aloy?
