To mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary, Sony is surprising PS5 players with a brand-new easter egg! As of December 2, 2024, a surprise update offers a PS1-inspired start-up animation, as well as several new themes in the image of the old consoles. An opportunity for fans to relive memories of the PS1 era directly on their PS5.
Once the update has been installed, which happens automatically without user intervention, the PS5's start-up animation, usually made up of dots of light, gives way to that of the PS1. The screen then displays the"SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT" logo and the famous orange square. After this animation, a message informs users that a special theme, linked to 30 years of PlayStation, has been activated. A new " 30 years of PlayStation " menu then appears in the settings, offering the possibility of customizing the console's interface.
Players can choose from several themes, each inspired by different generations of PlayStation consoles. They can opt for the " 30th anniversary " theme with PS1 animation and a dedicated interface, or select a theme based on the colors of the PS1, PS2, PS3 or PS4. This update marks the first time Sony has made it possible to apply themes to the PS5. Unfortunately, these changes will only be available for a limited time. Once the anniversary period is over, the PS5 will revert to its original interface.
