Dimmed lights, huge disco balls, a loud sound system and a gigantic dancefloor: at first glance, it's hard to believe that you're meeting a muscle-building session in a gym that has all the hallmarks of a large Parisian nightclub. And yet that's the whole concept behind MON Q: to offer sports enthusiasts an alternative to more "traditional" gyms, with the added bonus of a truly no-holds-barred atmosphere.
"The idea is to have fun," explains founder Sarah. "When I first came to Paris, I didn't feel at home in gyms, because most of the time, performance was the main thing. You came for a specific goal, not to have fun", she confides. So she began organizing buttock-strengthening classes at La Java, a large Paris nightclub that was unoccupied during the day. The concept caught on, so much so, that she left her improvised studio at La Java to open the MON Q gym in early January 2024, under the motto "workout is a party".
Here, the coaches have concocted a program focused on the gluteal muscles, with group classes that particularly work the lower body and the buttocks - hence the gym's name - with sessions ranging from 100% gluteal classes to abs-gluteal classes, via BAF (Bras abdo fessier) for a "full body" feel. Classes last around 50 minutes and are accessible to all levels, including beginners! Another new feature of this new gym is the booty camp classes, where you'll be taught how to use the Exxentric kBox, a kind of vertical rowing machine that's particularly effective for strengthening! With the bass on full blast and the sound turned up to maximum, you'll be able to let go of everything. Then it's off to the changing rooms, where you'll find everything you need to shower and get ready, including shower gel, shampoo, straighteners, hairdryers and cosmetics.
