One of them is a movie maker. The other is a composer. Together they are since 2009 Sqürl, an avant-garde post-rock duo known by indie rock connoisseurs. You may have guessed, I am talking about Jim Jarmusch and Carter Logan. Although the former is behind major movies such as “Dead Man”, the excellent “Coffee and Cigarettes”, “Broken Flowers”, “The Limits of Controls”, without forgetting “The Dead Don’t Die”; the latter has written lots of movie scores, including “Parterson”, made by Jim Jarmusch! Both artists know each other well and are gathering this winter 2023 in Paris, as their band, Sqürl.
Sqürl’s specialty? Creating semi-improvised scores mixing loops, synthesizers, guitars and effects units.
And it is in the wide auditorium of Centre Pompidou that this Monday February 13, 2023, Jim Jarmusch and Carter Logan will perform an exclusive movie-concert devoted to major moviemaker, painter and photographer Man Ray.
For the night, moviemaker Jim Jarmusch and composer Carter Logan will perform live several tracks to give a score to four silent movies by Man Ray. On February 13, 2023, at Centre Pompidou, the audience can discover “L’Etoile de Mer” (The Starfish – 1928, 17 min. 38s), “Emak Bakia” (Leave Me Alone – 1926, 19 min. 43s), “Le Retour à la Raison” (The Return to Reason – 1923, 2 min. 51s), and “Les Mystères du Château de Dé” (The Mysteries of Château du Dé – 1929, 25 min).
