A classical music concert is great, but when it's free, it's even better! So, to take advantage of this great opportunity in Seine-Saint-Denis, head for the great Basilica, in the heart of the city. From July 2 to November 5, 2023, approximately one Sunday a month, an organ concert will be given free of charge to all those who wish to attend.
Let yourself be lulled by the profound music of the great classical organ of the Basilica of Saint-Denis, for the time of a concert in an exceptional setting. A magnificent historical monument in Gothic style, the Basilica is best known as the final resting place of the Kings of France, thanks to its royal necropolis where 43 kings and 32 queens from the greatest French dynasties are laid to rest. Capetians, Merovingians, Carolingians... you'll find the tombs of Henri II and Catherine de Médicis, Clovis, François 1er and, most famously, those of the Sun King (Louis XIV), Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette. In addition to its necropolis, the Basilica of Saint-Denis boasts a magnificent classical organ, the Grand Orgue Cavaillé-Coll, which you'll have the chance to hear for the very first time during the free concerts given in the heart of the basilica by organists from all over Europe, under the direction of Quentin Guérillot, the titular organist of the Grandes-Orgues de la cathédrale Saint-Denis. Each concert takes place on a Sunday, from 5pm to 6pm: there's no need to register to attend, as the concerts are free and open to all.
