It was an announcement thatEurovision fans had been eagerly awaiting. As of August 30, 2024, we now know when and where the 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will be held. The organizers of the famous contest have announced that Basel, Switzerland, will host the next edition, with the final scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025. Prior to this, two semi-finals will take place on Tuesday May 13 and Thursday May 15. These evenings will take place at the St. Jakobshalle.
Basel, Switzerland's third most populous city after Zurich and Geneva, won out over Geneva, which was still in the running to host the competition.
The 68thEurovision Song Contest was won by Switzerland's Nemo, with his song " The Code ". As tradition dictates, the winning country must organize the next edition. The exception was in 2023, when the Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool, Great Britain.
In 2025, all eyes will be on Switzerland and the city of Basel. This is the third time the Swiss country has hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. The first time was in 1956 in Lugano. The second?
