The Snow Queen transformed into a ballet at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées

What better way to celebrate the holidays than with a fairytale show? The Snow Queen ballet takes over the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in a new French creation, featuring the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet.

The Snow Queen, Andersen's wonderful fairy tale, is adapted into a ballet in a new French creation at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. From December 21 to December 3, 2025, the Ballet de l'Opéra National d'Ukraine will present 14 performances of the tale, which has already been taken up by the Disney world.

The two-act ballet is based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale of the same name, and is set to music by Grieg, Massenet, Offenbach, Johann Strauss and Berlioz. The Snow Queen tells the story of Gerda and Kay, two childhood friends separated when Kay is kidnapped by the Snow Queen, who freezes her heart. Gerda sets off on a perilous quest to find him. Along the way, she meets some fantastic characters and overcomes many obstacles, thanks to courage, friendship and the power of love.

The Théâtre des Champs-Élysées promises a ballet full of magic and enchantment, with choreography by Aniko Rekhviashvili. For those of you familiar with Disney's version of The Snow Queen, this dance show is sure to give you a whole new perspective on the tale. Having already welcomed theUkrainian National Opera Ballet and Orchestrain 2022, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées is now supporting the Ukrainian troupe living through difficult times in Kiev.

The Ukrainian National Opera Ballet, based in Kiev, is one of Eastern Europe's oldest and most prestigious ballet companies. Founded in 1867, the company is particularly renowned for its interpretations of the great ballets of the classical repertoire, such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker and The Snow Queen. In addition to these classical works, the Ukrainian National Opera Ballet also produces contemporary pieces, showcasing Ukrainian choreographers and performing internationally.
