From June 5 to July 29, 2019, the Centre Pompidou presents an exhibition focusing on the work of artist-photographer Dora Maar. A retrospective that reveals an unseen facet of Picasso's muse, from her surrealist activity to her work for fashion.

Who really is Dora Maar... ? This is the question the Centre Pompidou is seeking to answer with an exhibition devoted to the artist-photographer from June 5 to July 29, 2019. This retrospective around Pablo Picasso's muse and lover aims to explore the various"facets of the artist, particularly the most unpublished, from his surrealist activity to his work for fashion and portraiture".

The exhibition, run in collaboration with the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Tate Modern in London, also explores the photographer's political and social commitment, through"reportage", as well as"her companionship with the agit-prop troupe of the October group". The other idea behind this retrospective? To bring to light"one of the most singular personalities of the first half of the 20th century", who rubbed shoulders with and influenced the crème de la crème of the Parisian artistic and literary scene, including Paul Eluard, George Bataille, Jacqueline Lamba, Nusch and Man Ray.

In all, almost 1,800 negatives and 250 contacts entered the Centre Pompidou's collections, just six years after the artist's death. Some of these archives are presented here for the first time in an exhibition. Dora Maar, a painter, photographer and actress who left an indelible mark on the Parisian avant-garde between the wars. Let's go and meet her, folks?
