For its contemporary exhibition 2019, the Palace of Versailles invites 5 great photographers: Dove Allouche, Nan Goldin, Martin Parr, Eric Poitevin and Viviane Sassen. These five photographers will be entrusted with playing with our view, with visible/invisible works set not within the Palace of Versailles but in the Trianon estate!
For the record, the Trianon estate is set a few kilometers from the Palace of Versailles and has been designed like a leisure residence for the King, so that he can rest far from the Court (yes, a few kilometers were enough) in a home, the Grand Trianon, and the entertainments venues such as the Théâtre de la Reine and its gardens.
This exhibition is the second one to take place in the Trianon estate: photographer Sugimoto signed a first installation in 2018 and – for the record – he took over the Petit Trianon, the Belvédère, the Théâtre de la Reine, the Pavillon Français, the Bassin du Plat-Fond and the Grand Trianon.
A wonderful opportunity to visit this Trianon Estate with its neoclassic buildings made of Languedoc marble, its flowerbeds and the famous Queen’s Hamlet, a real little and bucolic village so that queen Marie-Antoinette could rest in a little house and a kitchen garden.
