German art in a new light… The Louvre devotes an exhibition to German artist Albrecht Altdorfer. A retrospective inviting art enthusiasts to learn more about the German Renaissance, alongside an artist less known than the other masters of his generation. The museum is closed until further notice, but you can yet enjoy this wonderful exhibitions thanks to the digital tours provided on the Louvre's website.
The museum provides several ways to discover this exhibition: tour guided by the exhibition curators, walk around the works, conferences about the painter, his art... A whole digital program awaits free of charge!
An exhibition that defines itself as a monography trying to show visitors all “the richness and diversity of Albrecht Altdorfer’s work”. An artist “endowed with a great capacity of formal and iconographic invention, a pioneer in the genres of landscape and architecture”. A genuine artist from the Renaissance this retrospective endeavors to highlight that is “both very original and perfectly aware of the art creations of his contemporaries”.
Note the exhibition is curated by head of collections Hélène Grollemund, curator Séverine Lepape and the Louvre graphic art department curator Olivia Savatier.
