On the occasion of International Women's Rights Day, Disney's Hotel New York - The Art of Marvel presents an exhibition dedicated to the superheroines of the House of Ideas, entitled Women of Marvel, from March 8 to April 20, 2023. An exhibition that takes place in the Jack Kirby Legacy Gallery, and that highlights the most powerful women of the Marvel universe, through unique works of art from the comics, made by six female artists.
Women of Marvel is an exhibition that celebrates the strength, courage and determination of Marvel superheroines. Visitors will be able to discover original works of art, but also characters such as Captain Marvel, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Sue Storm, Spider-Gwen and many others, honored in this exhibition. Note the presence of QR Code installed under each work, giving you access to interviews with the artists in question.
Female comic book artists have long been underrepresented in the comic book industry. However, Marvel was one of the first comic book publishers to include female cartoonists and writers on their creative team. Women such as Marie Severin, Linda Fite, Ann Nocenti, Louise Simonson and Gail Simone have helped create some of the most popular characters in the Marvel universe.
Marvel's female superheroes have also played an important role in comic book history. Characters such as She-Hulk, Spider-Woman, Storm, Jean Grey, Rogue, Elektra and Jessica Jones have become icons of popular culture and have inspired generations of girls and women. Women of Marvel pays tribute to these iconic characters and their creators.
