After Seth and, more recently, Nasty, it's time for Tania Mouraud! The artist, considered by many to be one of the pioneers of urban art, is taking over the Fluctuart barge for a solo exhibition entitled"Dans les vents de l'oubli" ("In the winds of oblivion"). On view from February 16 to April 28, 2024, this free installation is an opportunity to (re)discover the world of this celebrated self-taught artist, who has undeniably left her mark on the history of contemporary art in France since her beginnings in the 1960s.
Known for her"Initiation Rooms", as well as"CityPerformance n°1", a poster campaign on some fifty Parisian billboards in 1977, Tania Mouraud is a complete artist, practicing photography and video as well as installation, performance and painting. Known for her reflections on our positioning in the world, Tania Mouraud reveals her struggles in"Black Power" (1988-1992),"Black Continent" (1991-2015), and her photographic series"Desolation Row" (2018).
Having presented her rich body of work on numerous occasions, including at the Musée d'Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne in 2014, the MAC/VAL in the same year and the Centre Pompidou-Metz in 2015, Tania Mouraud is exhibiting this year in Paris, on the Fluctuart barge, for a solo show.
On the program for this installation " Dans les vents de l'oubli " ? Eleven typographical compositions (printed on textile) created in as many languages (Tibetan, Greek, Hindi, Chinese, English, Hebrew, Iranian, Armenian, Thai, Kufic and Gujarati) based on Martin Luther King's famous phrase,"I have a dream" (series"DREAM", 1992-2005). An opportunity for the artist to once again use writing as a plastic material, and to remind us of past and present struggles, including the Black Lives Matter movement, the Iranian women's uprising and the Armenian genocide remembrance demonstrations.
The exhibition also features an impressive mural ("ANSKI", 2023) and a textile print ("OYSES TRERN", 2023), based on an excerpt from a Yiddish poem. To discover it, come to Fluctuart from February 16 to April 28, 2024. As always, admission is free, so don't miss out!
