If the French Revolution is an event well known to all, 1793-1794 marks an important year in our history. The Musée Carnavalet explores this date in an exhibition running from October 16, 2024 to February 16, 2025.

For most of us, the French Revolution is symbolized by the year 1789! And yet, this was only the very beginning of this great period of political and social upheaval in France, which ended ten years later, with Napoleon Bonaparte's coup d'état. In its next exhibition, however, the Musée Carnavalet will be focusing on theyear 1793-1794, one of the most complex and darkest, presented from October 16, 2024 to February 16, 2025.

In Year II of the republican calendar, the period between September 1793 and September 1794 stands out as a revolutionary year, between the so-called Terror and the break with the past to create something new. Carnavalet, a world reference for its collections of the French Revolution, presents this contrasting heritage through 250 works, including paintings, sculptures, decorative art objects, objects of history and memory, wallpapers, posters, pieces of furniture...

During this period, dreams and utopias were born in the capital, but also collective fears and violence, giving rise to a veritable artistic, sensitive and intellectual ferment in this time of crisis, which is reflected in these multiple works, mirrors of the lives of Parisians at the time.
